Peptide Intelligence · GLP-1
Semaglutide
Also: Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus
A GLP-1 receptor agonist. It mimics a gut hormone that slows stomach emptying and signals fullness, which lowers appetite and food intake. Injected weekly (Ozempic, Wegovy) or taken as a daily tablet (Rybelsus).
Approval status
FDA-approved
Type 2 diabetes (Ozempic, Rybelsus); chronic weight management and cardiovascular risk reduction in adults with obesity or overweight (Wegovy).
Compounding status
Approved product · compounded versions are unapproved
Branded products are FDA-approved. Compounded semaglutide is not FDA-approved or reviewed for safety, quality or effectiveness. FDA has received 990 adverse-event reports for compounded semaglutide as of May 31 2026, including dosing errors of 5–20× from multi-dose vials and unit confusion, and on Apr 30 2026 proposed excluding semaglutide from the 503B bulks list.
Evidence grade
A · Human randomized trials
